Abstract:

Experimental studies of internal gravity waves (IGWs) are important for understanding atmospheric dynamics and improving weather forecasts. Simultaneous measurements with three pulsed coherent Doppler lidars (PCDLs) provide the most comprehensive information on IGW parameters, including the propagation speed and angle and IGW length. In this work, we developed a technique for determining IGW parameters from combined measurements by three PCDLs horizontally spaced at specified distances. The technique was tested in a numerical experiment. As a result, the limits of applicability of the technique and the optimal parameters for lidar measurements were determined.

Keywords:

pulsed coherent Doppler lidar, internal gravity wave (IGW), IGW propagation speed and direction
