Abstract:

Computation of spaceborne lidar returns is performed by the Monte Carlo method. The analysis of results has shown that identification of inhomogeneities in the cloud top is possible under particular optical conditions. The optical thickness of the cloud layer is not greater than 2.5-3. The estimates are obtained for the lidar operating at λ = 0.532 mm at the distance from the cloud H ~ 400 km.
