Abstract:

The possibility of using the methane additive as an active admixture in copper bromide lasers is experimentally shown. Significant increasing of average lasing power and optimal pulse repetition rate is established when adding methane additivs. In a gas discharge tube of 1.5 cm bore and 36 cm length at 20 kHz pulse repetition rate the output power doubled from 0.8 to 1.6 watts. In the paper, an analogy of methane additive influence is drawn with additives of Н2 and HBr. It's suggested that the main effect is connected with HBr electronegative molecules, produced in plasma of CuBr+CH4-laser as a result of methane molecule dissociation and reaction of hydrogen with bromine.
