Abstract:

Convenient analytic expressions for estimating the efficiency of lidar systems as applied to laser remote sensing of the atmosphere are derived. Generalized parameters accounting for the lidar performance are discussed. It is shown that for a particular lidar system, a single-parameter family of characteristics can be constructed that allows lidar capabilities in the presence of the background noise to be adequately odescribed.
