Abstract:
A restitution procedure for estimating the atmospheric transmittance and extinction coefficient from double-frequency laser sounding data is proposed. Analytical solutions to the lidar equation for the above parameters are derived using a priori given spectral characteristics of the atmospheric backscattering and extinction coefficients. Based on numerical simulations, the solution stability is examined and the information content provided by single- and double-frequency lidar observations for the problem at hand is compared.
