Abstract:

The effect of the transient stimulated forward scattering on the collimated and focused beam divergence in a weakly absorbing medium was studied. Thermal and acoustic regimes of the stimulated scattering were examined. The spatial beam distortion behaviour in the presence of the kinetic gas cooling and thermal nonlinearity was compared. The relationship between the transverse size of the beam and the stimulated scattering was estimated.
