Abstract:

Theoretical analysis of the aerosol lidar correlation functions for two atmospheric paths was done to compare the efficiencies of the geometric sounding schemes with large and small ranges between the scattering volumes as applied to remote measurements of the cloud field velocity. Full-scale tests showed the correlation lidar design with a large distance between the scattering volumes to provide higher measurement accuracy over the small range sounding geometry, but to be inferior in the data rate.
