It is shown, for the first time, that modification of the quartz surface of UV-radiation source of an arbitrary geometry by hafnium dioxide HfO2 reduces the generation of ozone at the quartz-wall boundary. A six-fold decrease in ozone concentration has been demonstrated by an example of the XeCl excilamp of a barrier discharge type with a modified bulb wall.
