Abstract:

Periodic structures that show themselves in many-year series of the number of days with different atmospheric circulation patterns and with thunderstorm activity in Western Siberia and Kazakhstan in the period 1891-1996 are analyzed using the wavelet transform method. Most parameters exhibit long-term (greater than 18 years), medium (7-10 years), and short (2-6 years) periodicity. Relationships between peculiarities of the atmospheric circulation and thunderstorm activity are studied. Possible influence of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation phenomenon on the thunderstorm activity is discussed.
