Abstract:

The problem of the light-pulse propagation in a weakly nonlinear medium in the resonance absorption region is considered for the case where the pulse duration exceeds the medium-relaxation time. The characteristic features of the problem are studied on the basis of the model equation, differing from the nonlinear Schrodinger equation by the weak perturbation. The problem of pulse evolution was solved numerically. The possibility of stable pulse formation depending on the initial pulse shape is examined. The utility of the above data for the atmospheric sounding problems is discussed as well.
