Abstract:

The effects of line interference and finite molecular collision duration on the IR gas spectra are considered. An overview of the experimental studies of these effects and theoretical descriptions are presented. It is shown that the line interference causes redistribution of intensity in the regions of line overlapping and it also produces a very sharp decrease in absorption in the peripheral parts of the band. The effect of the finite duration of collision becomes important in the far wings of bands.
