Abstract:

We consider two methods of estimating the total aerosol particle cross section from spectral measurements of the aerosol optical depth (AOD). These methods are intended for supplementary definition of the solar photometry inverse problems for description of aerosol particle dispersed composition with application of integral particle size distributions. The first method is based on the established functional relationship between the unknown geometrical cross section and its upper boundary set a priori. In the second method, information is invoked on the spectral behavior of the extinction efficiency factor calculated for a set of aerosol microphysical models. We investigate numerically the influence of the upper boundary of the integral aerosol distributions on the accuracy of reconstructing the microstructure aerosol parameters retrieved by AOD inversion.
