Abstract:

In this paper laser method of control for thin oil film on water surface is considered, based on measurement of first-order and second-order derivatives of reflection coefficient. Mathematical modeling shows that the method allows to detect thin oil film with high reliability and to conduct measurement of oil film thickness from 0.1 to 10 mm with the root-mean-square error less than 30% at a relative root-mean-square value of measurement noise of 0.3%. The root-mean-square error decreases with decrease of film thickness and for range of oil film thickness of 0.1-2mm in most cases the root-mean-square error is less than 3%.
