Abstract:

The beam splitting method (BSM), used in calculation of light-scattering polarization characteristics for randomly oriented hexagonal water ice crystals, is described. The method is compared with the ray tracing method. The scattering phase matrices (SPM) of monodisperse ensembles of randomly oriented hexagonal water ice crystals, calculated by the BSM, are presented and analyzed. Their dependence on size and shape of hexagonal water ice crystals for the incident radiation of 0.55 and 0.67 mkm wavelengths is studied.
