Abstract:

The multimode partially coherent laser beam thermal blooming was studied in terms of the transfer equation for brightness in a nonlinear-refractive medium. The proposed approach was used to develop an approximate procedure for computing the average intensity and the effective radius of spatial coherence by solving the problem of the brightness function maximization at any point of the laser beam. Representative results of the numerical computations for great refractive beam distortions are discussed.
