Abstract:

A ground-based laser radar for measuring vertical profiles of atmospheric aerosol is proposed. The lidar employs a 1 m diameter mirror telescope. The block-diagram and technical data on the setup in question are presented. The optics used and the computing-recording system are described. Ad hoc algorithms for lidar data processing and measurement error estimation are discussed. The lidar operation and capabilities are illustrated using experimental profiles of aerosol altitudinal variations measured in summer and in winter.
