Abstract:

Broken cloudiness mathematical models based on the Poisson point fluxes are reviewed. Computational procedures for calculating mean radiative properties using the stochastic radiative transfer equation ensemble-averaged over model cloud array realizations are discussed. Mean fluxes and their partial derivatives with respect to the normal cloud fraction for a random cumuli field are shown to differ greatly from those of stratus clouds, an isolated field, and a regular array of clouds.
